I can't believe my sweet baby is 9 today!! Zach is such a bright spot in our family, whenever I seem to be having an "off" moment he will say something to crack me up :-)
I was induced into labor 9 years ago on my due date (because his brother was so big coming 10 days late!!) at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. It was a particularly hot, sticky June and I was ready to not be pregnant anymore. Ken and I had already settled on a name for our new baby boy: Samuel. We had also like Jacob and Zachary, but we had been referring to the new baby as Sam for several months and most of our friends and family knew what we planned on naming him. It was difficult to pick a name this time because we had used our two favorite boy names on Ben 16 months prior. I remember not being as scared this time to deliver since this was my second child and things proceded smoothly with the induction. I had a VERY effective epidural, and after Zachary was born the nurses played Happy Birthday on one of the monitors.
Day 2 came and Ken left briefly for coffee and a walk (the only time he left during my 2.5 day stay at the hospital), and the "Name Lady" came. Now, I'm sure she has a more illustrious title than "Name Lady", but that's what I have always referred to her as. We had been talking the night before about whether the new baby looked like a "Sam" or not, and Ken pretty much had said it was up to me whether to change the name we had been talking about for the last three months (he really couldn't deny me anything after labor and delivery)! So, Ken was gone and when I was asked what name this baby was to be given, I said Zachary Ryan. Ken came back later and I told him the news :-) We have several cards addressed to Baby Sam still in Zach's memory box.
9 words to describe Zach are: funny, intelligent, zany, sensitive, sporty, loyal, sweet, caring, and loving.

The Start of Summer!
I am so happy summer has begun! The last couple of months of the school year were really rough for me. I had trouble balancing the kids activities, homework, housework, and my increased work schedule, along with Ken's work schedule being pretty demanding of his time. Don't get me wrong, I love substituting. It usually gives me flexibility in my schedule, provides some extra income, and I truly enjoy being with kids all day long. HOWEVER...I was ready for the little buggers to be done already!! HAHAHA!
The boys and I made a list of summer fun things that we want to do. It's taped up on our front door and we've already marked some items off like going to the pool and fishing. Zach asked "what if we do things more than one time? I think we should put a tally next to them." So, we will be putting tally marks on our list as well, I love that kid!!
We were supposed to go strawberry picking today, but our close by places are picked out :-(( I really wasn't planning on driving an hour and a half to pick berries, so maybe next year for that one. Raspberry season is in a couple months so perhaps we'll catch those!
