Spring Catch-Up

Well, spring has arrived in Michigan. Today it's 70 and super windy, a week or so ago it was snowing, and for the rest of week we're looking at 50's...pretty much about normal for the weather here :-)  It's been quite a while since my last post.  Here are some catch-up items with the family:

1. Ben finished his first full season swimming with the Gators.  He has grown so much as a swimmer and Ken and I are so proud of him.  We have learned a lot as parents of a swimmer too, I can now talk at length about goggles, swim caps, the difference between fly and free events and the incompetence of some starters at meets ( more on that another time).

2. Zach is gearing up for soccer, we are waiting on the official word for what team he is on and who the coach(es) are.  He will once again be playing for Southgate Parks and Rec. In Fall Season they moved games/practices to some different fields and it worked out much better for the kids.  We'll see if they keep the location this Spring Season.

3. Easter has come and gone, along with our Spring Break from school.  We didn't go anywhere exciting for vacation as we are saving our pennies for our big trip to Florida planned in Summer; along with some smaller camping trips and another Pokemon National Tournament to attend in June/July. This Easter Break wasn't the normal happy time off school for us, My Aunt Maureen passed away suddenly right before Easter.  I say suddenly because how can you ever be prepared for a death... even though she had been sick for many years and most recently has been in much pain.  We know she is in a better place and pain free, but it is a difficult time for our family.  She was only 52 years old, younger than both my parents and many of my other family members...that starts you thinking about how precious the people around you are, and how short your time together on Earth.  Some close friends of ours also had to make the difficult decision of putting their long time pet to sleep. On a more positive note, we did go to the movies a couple of times, the boys had a friend sleep over, we went to the museum, the park, the book store multiple times, and even squeezed in some putt-putt golf.  I know the kids had some fun over break, but for me it was partially overshadowed by our sad times.

4. I am getting the itch to scrapbook again.  It's been a while since my last day long scrapping at my girlfriend Kellie's house.  I don't do much scrapbooking at home since space is at a premium around here, and I seem to have "helpers" more than I want poking through my stuff!  There are a couple of day long fundraisers coming up for scrapbooking, so I'm looking forward to making a dent in my ever growing pile of pictures (digital or processed).

5.  Ken is looking at some possible travel for work out of the country next month.  That should be interesting as he really hasn't been traveling for work in quite some time.  I'm sure the boys and I will be fine...maybe we can skype while he is away, I think the kids would get a kick out of that!

All right so, I think I've pretty much given a summary of what has been happening around here lately.  Only about 8 more weeks of school left...'till next time.
